As expected, Tommy took a beating from all of the Ripken lovers out there. Listen as he defends his position, then gives his rapid fire opinion on the Hall Of Fame future of some of today’s greats.
Other topics include, Brian’s top 10 movies of all time, a botched job interview that may lead to a court date, putting superstition ahead of health, a kickass afternoon at the grocery store, and Tommy meets more hot chicks. “It’s kind of a bondage site”.

I haven’t heard the show yet, but I wanted to post what is the leading candidate for “text” of the year. I got this about 2am this morning from my brother after seeing transformers.
“It’s as if my $9.50 transformed into a huge mechanical cock and then raped me.”
Once again my list goes to eleven ironically it doesn’t include Spinal Tap. No order.
Jaws
Caddyshack
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Goodfellas
The Godfather
Fight Club
The Birds
Apocalypse Now
Pulp Fiction
Rushmore
Star Wars
Dutch, looks like your girl Avril is in legal trouble:
————-
Avril Lavigne is being sued by two songwriters that wrote the tune “I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend”, back in the 1970s. The track was performed by The Rubinoos and was written by Rubinoos founder Tommy Dunbar and Rubinoos former road manager, James Gangwer.
So how close are the two tracks? The Rubinoos song contains the line “Hey, hey, you, you, I wanna be your boyfriend,” while the Avril Lavigne song goes, “Hey, hey, you, you, I wanna be your girlfriend,” but that does seem to be where the similarities end. Is that enough make Avril Lavigne guilty of copyright infringement? In previous rulings, fellow Canadian singer Sarah McLachlan was able to win a similar lawsuit, while The Verve lost their lawsuit to The Rolling Stones for the track, “Bittersweet Symphony”. Also, is there are irony from the fact that Avril is being sued by someone whose only hit was a remake? That’s up for you to decide.
—————-
I don’t know what’s worse: The fact that some no name band is sueing just for the $ or the fact that Avril’s shitty lyrics were actually done before by another band.
Trainfan:
Obviously the honeymoon must be over, as you got married on Saturday, but by the following Tuesday you’ve posted 26 times on the message board.
I hope you enjoy the steak knives!
We’re Looking forward to meeting up Thursday noon at Binion’s front bar.
Steve in West Palm – I figured I ought to make it perfectly clear from the beginning that I’m staying a degenerate and kill all expecations she may have been secretly haboring of changing me. Actually I think we are going to head to Vegas next month for a mini honeymoon and then take a cruise in the fall/winter.
We did like the knives – however, to be honest we got another set of Wolfgang Puck knives that I like better – so I think we are going to return yours and put the money towards some Omaha Steaks that we can use the good knives on.
26 posts in the 4 days following his own wedding? I don’t think we need to argue who the proverbial Cal Ripken of the TAI boards is. Let’s see Tommy D. veto Trainfan John’s first ballot to the This Ain’t Iowa Hall of Fame.
Off topic…That Stu Ungar movie was weaksauce. I’ll play the nerd card again. If you really want to learn about his life read “One of a Kind” it’s fantastic.
Patch – A Degenerate Hall of Fame! I love it. I think I have a new Forum Category for the Friends of TAI site. And Stu Unger just might make it in as an original member.
here is my top ten films
1. V the hot one
2. Debbie does Dallas
3. From Her Ass To Her Mouth
4. Hustler’s Asian Fever #20
5. House of Dreams
6. Marriage and Other 4 Letter Words
7. The Private Afternoons of Pamela Mann

9. Talk Dirty To Me I
10. A night in Paris (Bellagio Hotel version)
Hey guys,
(Had to get my dig in it seems to be a tradition of new posters.)
I’ve been listening to the show since episode 6 and love the show, but never bothered posting. To be honest your constant begging, like a Jr. High guy trying to get to second base on a date before his dad comes to pick him and his girl up from the movies, to go to the message board kind of turned me off.
But since I had to come here to order a shirt I figured I should post how for at least one episode you had 2 female listeners. My wife, infant daughter and I were driving back from NYC to Boston (two great sports towns). I was driving and we were listening to music on my Ipod over the car radio. My wife said she was going to take a nap so I asked her to put on a podcast instead of music (TAI of course.) I bit later I look over and my wife still hasn’t nodded off, so I asked if she would prefer music, and she says, “No this is interesting.”
So there you go, you guys are officially interesting to female listeners. (Not sure how my 10 week old daughter felt, but she wasn’t crying, so that’s good.)
Richie’s actual top ten movies

2.Howard the Duck
3.Weekend at Bernies 2
4.The Princess Diaries
5.Bambi
6.A Night In Paris (Bellagio Hotel Version)

The last thing we need is inner tubers taking pole lessons.
2 films that just missed my list “fame” and “weekend @ bernies 2″. The first one was bullshit.
Somehow it doesn’t come as a surprise that Tommy’s Avril Lavigne listening, Gilmore Girls watching ass didn’t particularly like the Transformers as a kid…
Probably too busy watching Strawberry Shortcake and the Care Bears…
Nice call with Hustler’s Asian Fever #20. The first 19 were really works in progress, and #21 was just repetitive.
A little over a week ago I was thinking about an upcoming trip to Las Vegas and about what my wife and I might do once we get there. It was then I remembered listening to some jackball who did a podcast that was supposed to be about poker who lived in Las Vegas. I was curious as to what he might be doing these days. A Google search was all it took to find the artist formerly known as BMO podcasting again with some other dude. I’ve listened to a few shows they seem pretty OK. I’m pretty sure I’ll keep listening.
I have found that Brian and I have a couple things in common. We both have loved standup comedy since childhood. We also both occasionally say something funny.
Here is my top 10 movie list:
10. Ocean’s 11 (Remake)
9. 12 Angry Men
8. Empire Strikes Back
7. Pulp Fiction
6. Blazing Saddles
5. The Aviator
4. Shawshank Redemption
3. Apollo 13
2. Goodfellas
1. The Godfather
BTW: I just put in my order for a t-shirt. Also congrats on the sponsorship deal.
Stu Unger is a god….. granted a cocaine infused, crack whore using, deadbeat savant sort of a god, but one of the most compelling stories I’ve ever read.
There are actually two “movies”. One is “High Roller: The Stu Unger Story” with Michael Imperioli (christopher from the Sopranos) as Stuey – I think this is the one TD saw. Which ia a great dramatization of Unger’s life. ESPN also ran a documentary based on the book “One of A Kind” which provided even more insight into his amazing life.
If you like poker and have never read the book – go the fuck out and buy it……
Red! Good to see you again. Sorry I couldn’t leave a forwarding address. I’m talking comedy as well once a week at http://www.behindthebricks.com Hope you’ll stick around.
There must be something wrong with me. I’m watching the AAA All-Star game–probably because it’s the first baseball game from Albuquerque I’ve ever seen televised.
You know for my money the Asian Fever Series really peaked around Vol. 12 and it’s been all downhill ever since.
A couple of outstanding movies that have been overlooked?
Field of Dreams(GREAT story, Liotta was good,Costner never could act)
Easy Rider(soundtrack alone should have been nominated)
The King and I(Yule Brenner RIP)
The Jerk(c’mon, you know you laughed hard)
Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind(kinda corny,so it fits right in here)
The Deer Hunter(talk about using the “F” word…)
Vanishing Point(perhaps the best car movie ever)
A Hard Day’s Night(this started a revolution,so did the cast!)
And finally, pick any J.Bond movie with Connery in it(well, almost any…)
just my opinion…
Di Di Mau
Great call on the Jerk. An all time comedy great.
No order – but Movies I’d watch again and again:
The Usual Suspects
Memento
The Out of Towners (Jack Lemmon Sandy Dennis version)
The Great Escape – everyone who was anyone was in it
French Connection
Live and Die in LA
(I have a feeling I’m showing my age)
American History X (If I had to pick a #1 this is it)
True Romance (A close number 2)
Midnight Run
Godfather I and 2 (there also is some TBS version that has them all together in Chronological order – mixing scenes from each movie – that is really wild)
Pulp Fiction
Rear Window
The Blues Brothers
Animal House
Swingers
I think BMo and Dutch should re-consider seeing Transformers. I’m not suggesting you go see it right now, wait until it’s released on DVD and rent it or something. I was never really a Transformers fan as a kid, but my friend really wanted to see it, and the previews did make it look decent. I was pleasently surprised at how good a movie it turned out to be. It’s got everything a good summer, blockbuster should have. Great action scenes, plenty of decent humor, and hot females (I suppose your lady listeners will find some of the male cast to be hot as well. There’s something for everyone!) I enjoyed it so much that I went to see it again. And I saw plenty of movie-goers that were easily in the 40+ crowd enjoying the movie as well. Don’t miss out on this movie just because you’ve “grown out” of something you were into as a kid. And you’ve got to admit, it is nice to finally see a summer movie that isn’t some sequel or a rehashed plot. At least consider giving it a chance at some point, whether it be now or in 5 months when it’s released on DVD.
PS – I just noticed I put a comma between summer and blockbuster… I have no idea why that’s there.
Movies:
· Star Wars
· Wizard of Oz
· Raiders of the Lost Arc
· Field of Dreams (come on, its Iowa, Good call Jimmymac)
· Fargo
· Pulp Fiction
· Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
· Saving Private Ryan
· Beatle Juice (Tim Burton Movies have excellent escapism)
· A Boy and His Dog

Mini Vegas Trip Report
I went on a last minute trip to Vegas last week with the wife to enjoy the pleasant climate over the 4th of July holiday.
We stayed at the Hilton (loyalty points choice). I was quite surprised that they had upgraded their rooms and they were pretty decent. Flat screen TV’s, ipod docking stations, decent styling. Not bad at all for a hotel that is on the lower end of Strip prices. A good option if you have a rental car to get around.
I played a couple of the Planet Hollywood poker tournaments. I was impressed by the room, management, and level of competence by the other players for a lower buy-in tournement. The afternoon tournament had over 100 entries (including the alternate period). I think the whole city must benefit from the WSOP environment as the numbers and level of play seemed better than any previous trips during non-WSOP times.
Walked through the Venation. I believe that it does indeed have a strange smell. Kind of like an over deodorized restroom. Yuk.
We went to check out the WSOP and it was more entertaining than I was expecting. We spotted most of the pros playing a deuce-seven event that was cool to start with, but soon it was not a big deal. Within 20 minutes it was like “oh Christ, here comes Doyle with his crutch again, we better get out of the wayâ€. Still it was interesting to see Helmuth, Negreanu, Tony G. and Howard Ledderer have a spirited discussion about late arrival rules in a re-buy right in front of you.
At the WSOP there is a small elevated bar near the final table area. Turned out to be a great place to hang out for an hour or so on July 5. The Charity Tournament was just starting and Adam Sandler, Ray Romano, Matt Damon, Shannon Elizabeth, Cheryl Hines, Jason Alexander, Ben Affleck, Charles Barkley and others were yacking it up directly below. Plus there was free beer served by Milwaukee’s Best girls (OK it was Milwaukee’s Best brand, but it was still free).
Business that probably can only thrive in Vegas: “Serge’s Showgirl Wigs Superstore†(Sahara east of the Strip).
Best TV quote from the Vegas News: A chapel manager with a concerned straight face in an interview prior to 7/7/7 – “We expect our busiest day ever. We will have four Elvis’s on duty.â€
Took a meal at the ‘Hash House a Go Go’. It is about 3 miles west of the strip on Sahara. Huge portions of food. A good hung-over breakfast option. One of the menu specials is ’24 oz. Bud with a side of Bacon’.
—–
Good call on the Hash House…been to the San Diego location many times (probably why I’m approaching 3 bills)…huge is an understatement on the portion size, and very good quality as well…..particularly fond of the Cap’n Crunch pancakes as a hangover cure
What’s the beer like
Does anybody know if the work on the excaliber pool is complete yet ?
i don’t know about the pool at excalibur, but it reminded me that PMG (Pure Management Group) just opened a vegas version of the famous Dick’s Last Resort there.
seems like an odd choice for PMG. Anyone been to one of these? is it worth checking out.
That pregnant lady who is overdue is the saddest thing I have heard in a very long time. Somehow I am sure that child will be born and survive and end up in a class that I teach.

Top 10 Movies
1. True Romance
2. Pulp Fiction
3. good Fellas
4. GodFather II
5. Sin City
6. Shawshank Redemption
7. Casino
8. Kill Bill I & II
9. Resevoir Dogs
10. Raging Bull
Honourable mentions Coming to America, Boomerang, Lucky # Slevin, Conan, Zoolander, Watching Crashers, Van Wilder, Fight Club. I know not classics….
Favourite movies – in no particular order:
Caddyshack
The Adventures of Rodin Hood (Errol Flynn version)
The Blues Brothers
Reservoir Dogs (always prefered it to Pulp Fiction)
Blade Runner
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
Fight Club
The Man in the White Suit
The Searchers
The Dam Busters
I don’t know how many of them would be considerd classics, but my criteria for including them is simple. These are movies I’d be happy to just rewind and watch again.
I was tempted to include Oceans 13, but only cause I was there when it was being filmed and if you look closely at a couple of scenes I am in the background
OK Dutch, you got me going again today. First can you please define perfect. I know a lot of married people and tons that are happy, but i would never call anyones marrage perfect.
Next, with the cal ripken thing again. First, check the numbers ripken and gwynn have very similar numebers
Gwynn – 3141 hits, 135HR, 1138RBI and .330 Average
Ripken- 3184 hits, 431HR, 1695RBI and .276 Average
They are much closer than i figures that they would be, next, carlos guillen, are you fucking kidding me. He is a average defender at best, never hit 20 home runs and never had a 100RBI season (I think he will get there this year). He couldn’t carry cal’s water bottle for him on his best day.
Please tell me the shortstop between 1981 and 1995 that was a better all around player that cal ripken.
Then you say yes to Don Mattingly, who only had like 6 good years and i would make a bet, wasn’t even the best first baseman in the AL during his time. 1984 – 1989. You are all over the board and seem to like people who played good defense.
Finally, I think you under-estimate how well cal played shortstop. Remember that he would have won a million gold gloves if it were not for a guy named omar vizquel.
Sorry for the long post and the rant, but you made me crazy on the train today with the talk.
yzerman
For those who haven’t seen the Phil Hellmuth crash video yet. Its pretty funny.

Anyone want to get some action going on what TD’s #1 movie is going to be? I’ll bet on Fight Club being at the top of his list, but would also be open to choosing 2 or 3 movies each to bet on. If anyone is interested let me know and we can work out the particulars.
I saw Transformers last night– it was totally unoriginal, corny, and way too long. Nothing but 2.5 hours of tired out action movie and teen movie cliches. Bad acting overall. Don’t waste your money on it.
Here’s my top ten list:
1. Big Lebowski
2. L.A. Story
3. Pulp Fiction
4. Garden State
5. Bad Santa
6. Fargo
7. School of Rock
8. Boogie Nights
9. Casino
10. Collateral
Ok, time for my first official baseball pick of the season. I decided to go with 2 shitty teams so I would have a built in excuse if I lose. I’m taking:
White Sox +130 over Orioles
Guthrie has only figured in 6 decisions this year which means he isn’t prone to going deep into games, and considering the O’s bullpen is so bad they should pitch underhand, I’m taking the Sox to win this one late.
Record: 0
By the way, Just wanted to welcome Aquaman to the family. Sorry we missed you, but we’ll definitely give you some love on the Mnday show.
ALSO,
Tony is knee deep in work and has let me know that the show will be up late Friday afternoon. (That’s Saturday for you Aussie’s). As always I’ll give a preview.
Dude in a cowboy outfit decides to turn the NY NY into a shooting gallery, the nickname “Pac-Man” is now officially ruined for everyone, and Brian is Steve Wynn’s worst nightmare. Sorry for the delay.
Am posting for the first time on any site, as I am a little past the target demo for computer literate. Have been listening since the first show ( at work ) I listen to several other podcasts routinely on various topics, 3 of them Vegas related. five hundy, yours and vegas tourist. The other two are fairly dreadful especially vegas tourist, yours however has morphed into a podcasting powerhouse, and I wish you guys the best for the future of your show.
P.S. I am probably one of the few listeners who also listened to the greatest gambling radio show of all time The Stardust Line, and getting Dave ( I dont know how to spell his last name ) kochen on the show would be great.
yea, what Yzerman said about Cal!!
