It is a holy day of obligation for men all over the world today as the NFL season finally kicks off. Tommy and Brian are live again at donbest.com with a recap of all the action, as well as next week’s lines hot off the presses.
Also tune in to hear Brian’s peep show in the most unlikely of locations, a juiced up Rick Ankiel sabotages TAI, and did Brian mention he went 4-0?

Another Rugby World Cup pick:
Argentina vs Georgia (-42 Argentina)
It’s a big number of points to cover and normally I’d stay away from this, but after there showing against France I’d say Argentina are not only good value to cover this, but have a good chance of winning there group.
Nice Job on the show last night, sorry i couldn’t make it.
One game note, Chicago and San Diego. This loss had nothing to do with Rex Grossman. I watched most of this game from fantasy reasons. Bernard Berrian stop running and that was the only pick that he threw. Lovie Smith and the coaching staff if the reason that they lost this game.
They are losing 7-3 and driving, Grossman just hits berrian for 16 yards over the middle, San Diego hasn’t stopped this play all day. They are around the SD 35. Now the bears procede to run the ball up the middle 4x and turn the ball over on downs.
This is when you feel like it’s fixed, 3 and 1, 4 and 1 same horrible play up the middle for no gain. How about throwing the fucking ball. Everyone is going to say that rex grossman just doesn’t get it done. Bullshit the coaching sucks and this loss goes right on them. I’m not a grossman fan, but i hate when the coaches out think themselves.
Now that I’ve gotten by “drunk dial rant” phone call in for the 100th show – and really, what better way to celebrate my inner degenerate with a drunk, non-sensical rant – I figured I would also put in a written note about the 100th podcast milestone.
First and foremost – Brian, Tommy and the community have kept we well entertained over the 10 months and 100 hours of listening time – and that is no small feat. I usually have the attention span of a seven month old. So for personal reasons – I’m grateful to have found the show.
There can be no doubt that the show has come a very long way. From the ominous Friday the 13th date for the opening show, to the brilliantly unique idea of walking up and down the strip each week to review hotels neither of the hosts had been in, the show opened with such a low bar – that it would have been virtually impossible to not go up.
In relistening to the 100 shows over the past 4 days – I wanted to try and capture some of the highlights from my perspective – Top 10 style.
10. The Burger Debate
9. Skechers in Searchlight
8. Ron Shock Interview
7. Something in the Luxor Light
6. Punting a Grumpy
5. Tommy Coming out of his shell for March Madness Preview

1. Patch, Fenn, Slash, Hawkeye, Steve in WP and all the other old timers who have stuck this thing out. Glad to know there are other people in the world with as boring a life as I have.
I also want to give a big shout out to Wonder Admin Tony – is it any wonder that the celebration of the 100th Podcast was put off to show 101 because of a show that they tried to produce without him around to punch the record button?
Some of you may also know that aside from being a degenerate gambler who loves Vegas – I also have a professional interest in how Web 2.0 communities develop – and along with a long list of “what not to do’s” the boys have helped me undertstand the business and complexity of building a growing, vibrant online community.
Congrats again on 100 episodes – god knows I never thought you’d make it. But I sincerely hope that the 100 milestone is only a very small step on what I hope is a long and prosperous journey for you.
Good call on Grossman yzerman – you neglected to mention that the Refs were in on the fix as well. They were TERRIBLE. Mike Brown gets injured on a play where he was held AND horse collared by an offensive lineman at an officals feet and no flag on the play. It was like that all day.
Thanks for the insight guys. I didn’t get a chance to watch the game, so I was basing my call on the stat sheet and the lament of the bears fans around me.
For all involved in the pick ‘em contest. I will post the new lines Tuesday morning.
Mr. Pants, i was less killing you than the bears coaching staff. I think that generally grossman sucks, but yesterday wasn’t his fault.
Also, how about some love for my Patriots. And lastly, it’s going to be a LONG season for the Jets. There offensive live if just the worst and they have no pass rush.
RIP – September 9, 2007, the official death of Britney Spears’ Career.
i know this has nothing to do with the sports show, but DAMN!, did anyone happen to catch her disastrous performance on the VMAs? that was sad, she was a complete mess – chunky, sun burned, & totally out of it. i thought she was going to fall 3 or 4 times and she looked like she had no idea where she was.
on the bears games. the Bears also had that weird turn over on the bad punt by SD that was so short it hit Chicago’s Brandon McGowan which SD recovered. you just can’t win with 4 turn overs.
just listened to the first 10 minutes of the show and Brian snuck the line of the week in there
“haven’t seen a back door that nice since the DMV”
didn’t even hear that last night.
I’ll have the picks standings up in a couple hours
Fobes, You hit the nail square on the head regarding your review of the VMA opening. The look of ‘lostness’ on her face was stunning.
Hey TD- I also had a little play on the under last night. The local sports guys here said that the Giants and Cowboys have played each other 90 times and this was the highest scoring game ever. Made me feel real good about my hunch. At least Brian was 4-0 (in case you hadn’t heard)
Well I did have a post about another picking in the Rugby World Cup, but unfortunately it appears I can’t post to this site from work. Needless to say that sucks.
For those of you who were interested it was for Tuesdays game: Argentina(-42) against Georgia. Normally I wouldn’t expect Argentina to cover that many points, especially as the minow teams are playing better rugby than anyone expected, but Argentina are coming off of an unexpected win against France and with a strong performance here could be seen a a good bet for winning there group.
Now I know that Rugby is less well known, and probably even less liked, than Soccer in the US but it will be of interest to those in the Southern Hemisphere.
For the record I’m 1-0-0 on my Rugby World Cup picks.
Just a couple of NFL notes from yesterday…
New NFL record set by former Iowa State Cyclone Ellis Hobbs,
longest kickoff return,108 yards
Favre ties Elway’s most NFL wins, throwing for 1 int and no td’s,
probably the only reason he came back this year…
The Bronco’s actually practice that last minute field goal
all the time…Tommy Dutch says Shanahan’s always conservative early in the season…ahem..Cutler running the option? Throws for over 300 yards, that’s conservative??
L.Tomlinson the best back in the league? I don’t think so…
Opening line on TX Tech at Rice is -28? I’d be interested to hear the Godfather’s take on this game. Everyone was so distracted by App st/Mich that nobody even flinched when div 1AA Nichols St went on the road to Rice and won 16-14 on a late safety.
Unless there is something I’m missing, this looks like a 70-7 type game.
here’s the standings after week 1

Jimmy,
I mean it as a compliment, he’s a man that manages his team as well as any in the league. He wins with defense and rushing the ball early and takes more chance later in the season. I have all the respect in the world for him but I hesitate to bet on his teams early in the season because they don’t score much.
Cutler threw for 300 because because they exposed the Buffalo defense on the out to Walker. They won the game rushing the ball for 170 yards.
my bad LGH, i had Minn graded a loss
change will be included in next week’s standings,
keep them coming guys, i’m sure there are more errors
I’ll be taping an audio comment for the 101st show tonight and sending it over to Tony. Just gotta think of what to do to try to “win”.
TD, also to retouch on a couple of shows ago…
I did infact invite you out when I was in Vegas. I had sent out at least a few emails asking if you (and Bridgette) would come out. I also then asked Brian to speak to you as you weren’t responding and I wanted to solidify RSVPs. The only notification from you I received was the “doubtful” remark on the Friday show. Going from that I had assumed you weren’t coming out at all. Hopefully we can get on the same page for the next trip!
Hey Steve, nice room. I like the idea of having 2 shitters. Reminds me of the Love Toilet.
http://www.phunymovies.com/item/RQ4W4LYSJNWQJQ9J
My goodness, I went undefeated week one? I guess I didn’t realize.
I tivoed the VMA’s which I hate to watch in general but thought might have some relevance to the Friday show. Now I’m actually excited to watch it. Nothing makes me happier than seeing successful people implode.
B-Mo, you nailed it. i didn’t even watch the VMAs the first time around, but heard how bad it was and recorded the replay to see just if it be that bad – you won’t be disappointed.
Hawks, you wouldn’t want to drop a deuce in that second bowl in Steve’s room or there would be a nasty surprise when you “flushed” the bidet and got a shit fountain.
well, i didn’t really have plans tonight, but just got this text from Sapphire Gentleman’s Club -
Join us tonight for the biggest Monday Night Football Event…Complimentary food by Fatburger & Mama Jo’s Italian. Bud Beer Specials & $1 Dances.
at least if the cardinals can’t win, i won’t have to go far for some consolation.
FREE FATBURGERS and $1 Lap Dances! God I love Vegas
Fobes, I’ve gotta admit I’ve often been tempted by the adverts for Monday Night Football events at some of the clubs when I’ve been in Vegas but I’ve never been to one, not yet anyway. If you do go it’d be great if you post a quick review. It might help me make the decision when I’m next in town.
Also, on the bettin front I have 2 final bets for week 1:
Baltimore at Cincinnati (+2.5 Baltimore)
Arizona at San Francisco (-3 San Francisco)
So far I’m running at 3-1-0
Fobes- Why are you receiving text messages from strip clubs and where do I sign up?
Just quietly I thought Britany looked fucking hot! Kinda like a $36 hooker! & man her ass is getting better with age!
Did dipper drop his crackpipe onto his keyboard or did he knock over his “tobacco water” bong onto it and the above post was created?
well, apperantly Britney’s lawyers have managed to get all video clips of her crack dance off the internet… if someone has a link to one, please let me know.
According to TiVo– VMA isn’t being replayed anytime soon….
Hey guys – be sure you put the Skype on silent next time so you don’t keep having the Skype chat noises pop up during the show!
As for next week I know you don’t have the final lines yet, but I’ll take Detroit, Jacksonville, and Indianapolis.
6 fucking turnovers and the starting QB out and the Ravens still had a chance to win this game at the end. I stand by my prediction that the Bengals are not going to be good this year.
Paigow: check on mtv.com http://www.mtv.com/overdrive/?id=1568788&vid=173440
“Still had a chance?” They had the f’ng game won – another crappy call on the Off. Pass Interference on the Touchdown…….I don’t know how anyone can bet on these things for a living without taking out a contract or two on a ref
Man, the lines have already moved on my NCAAF picks… I’m getting them up now, before they move any more…
WVU -16
Auburn -13
Cincinatti -9
Navy -7
(and I hate picking all the favorites… but didn’t see any dogs I liked)…. I’m sure this is the end of my short-lived winning streak
NCAFF: 7-0-0
NFL: 2-0-1
P.S- 10 things I have learned from listening to 100 hours of TAI:
10. They make wine in Australia
9. Screw Danny Gans, go check out the show in Binion’s bathroom.
8. Forget the dollar drafts and whiffleball, all the real fun happens in the cabana
7. When given a choice between digging in your own shit and taking two fingers up the ass, seriously consider bending over and taking it like a man.
6. My mother was wrong. You really can make money laying on the couch and watching football all day.
5. Tommy Dutch is the only man in American that can call his girlfriend at 2 in the morning and profess his obsession with strippers (well, except for maybe A-Rod).
4. Despite his professed love for West Side Story and Rent, I honestly don’t think Tommy Dutch will ever be arrested in a Minnesota airport bathroom police sting.
3. Sketchers, huh? I know those things.
2. The “Godfather” has a better chance of hitting a 3-game, 1-star, red asterisks, blue dash parlay with Oregon State, Syracuse and Michigan than I do of seeing that Momma-Dutch/Fyregirl tag team I’ve been fantasizing about.
1. “Absolutely” is not just an adverb, it’s a way of life.
Pete, Trainfan,
Excellent top ten lists. Well done.
Jimmymac,
I agree Ellis Hobbs will be the highlight of the NFL season! Unfortunately, that might be the only highlight associated with the Cyclones this year unless all the planets align vs. Iowa. You never know in that game, but I think 16 points is ‘light’ for that betting spread.
NCAA pick, stickin with what I know the most about… KU
Ku beats CMU by 45, CMU beats Toledo by 30…
So I have to take
KU -22 over Toledo
NCAA picks 2-1-0
Train I’m with you, the officals turned that last few minutes into a circus! If that was offensive pass interference then they should only lets girls play. What a joke! (yeah it cost me, I was on BALT).
Brian you have to be correct on the Bungles….5 turnovers & they still only squeak home….they look crappy.
Patch – what can I say RE: my like for a chubbier bum on Britany?……Ask my buddies I’m the ultimate wing-man.
Just watched the VMA’s. First off, I’m with you Dipper. I like a girl with a little meat on her, and though she’s not the sex symbol she used to be, for a chick that squeezed out 2 kids in 2 years, she looks pretty good. The real beauty was her performance which was atrocious. She looked like a robot. Half the time she forgot she was lip syncing. Absolutely horrible.
On a football note, what are your thoughts on the Mike, Mike and Mike both in the late MNF game? I love them on the radio, but I thought that call was rough.
I just got to see the Mariners bleed rectally in front of an audience this evening coughing up TWO grand salamis to Joakland no less. Ca$h in the franchaise.
Four things:
1) Trainfan John Re: Post No3 – 100 hours of shows in 4 days! Fuck man that would be amazing if it could be anything like true – 4 days = 96 hours and i guess you never slept. Apart from that, the rest of the post is spot on.
2) What can I say – I also like a ‘meaty’ britney, and surely the fact she is running around like she has ingested a handful of ruffies should make it even hotter for us inner degenerates.
3) Dutch – I agree with Paigow Pete. You never will be arrested in a minnesota airport bathroom sting, because you would never bother going that far when you can get all the BJ’s you need on the strip!
4) uuuummmmm oh yeah congrats on the 100th show you guys are getting a real community thing going here.
I would phone up and congratulate you but i’m too fuckin lazy really.
Thanks to the shitty journey into work I had this morning I’m finally up to date on Podcasts. My usual train had been cancelled so I had to travel on 3 different lines and on everyone someone had pulled an emergency signal. A great start to a day.
I then find out that my picks from yesterday when 0-1-1. Which has left me All in all a poor showing for NFL week 1: 3-2-1 and overall for the week I’m totalling 5-3-1.
As my betting usually pays for a holiday around Christmas I guess I’m staying at home!
But on the plus side I found out that my missing post had turned up. I guess the system had a bit of a problem with someone other than Ace posting the first comment.
Bob – Where are you getting the lines for the rugby world cup??? I can only find decimal odds. As for your train ride – im sure you know what London is like – its a daily nightmare for me…. and then there are the strikes – dont even get me started…
Brian – im normally not one to bust balls but when it comes to my Knicks i gotta do it. Channing Frye plays for the Blazers now…. We got the slightly higher scoring and rebounding but equally as abysmal at everything else Eddy Curry twin and mandatory big-contract required by the Knicks in trades, Zach Randolph in return. Another magical deal by the Wizard of fucking Oz, Isiah Thomas. I dunno if that made sense but we dont got Frye, we got Zach and Isiah needs a bullet is what i meant.
Speaking of hoops – im coming to NYC for a week in December – gonna check out 2 or 3 Knick games but also keen to see some College hoops of football. Can anyone recommend anything for the week of Dec 14-21 in NYC college wise????
Pmac, I currently do all my online betting via skybet. You can configure fraction or precentage for the odds and as well as straight bets they offer handicaps and in play betting (but that’s just a little to involved for me on a week day).
They also offer NFL and NCAAF betting as well. There may be better sites out there, but I’m used to using it.
Whilst I was on there this morning I spotted England vs South Africa line. I’ll not be betting it but it’s currently SA -14. Having seen the shambles that was the England vs USA game that seems like a pretty safe bet at the moment.
I would have my cash on England for that one…. Like you though, I wont be betting. I just have this dirty feeling that it will be a tight affair….. Almost got cash on the Argies in the opening match but pulled the plug at the last minute STUPID….. I’mm off to Cardiff on Sat for Aussies v Wales – should be a cracker!!!!
Pmac, you’re the only person I know who would have money on England for that game. That game could easily be a 30 point loss. The only hope England have is if South Africa have a problem with discipline, which has been known. That said though, the current England team are just as likely to blow up.
Australia v Wales though, that could be a good game. I’ve not seen the lines for that one yet, I’d say an Australian win is a safe bet and if the line is any less the -10 I’ll be betting on it.
Maybe its my hate for South African rugby….. i just despise the filthy bastards…. I see it as Englands last hope of making a go of this world cup so they will be more committed than ever…. im noticing the SA backs are playing well since Eddie Jones (aussie) hopped on board…. i guess im just hoping that its a low scoring affair and england stay in it…. nah fuck it.. im not gonna bet so i hope its a massive scoring affair and i get some entertainment out of it….
Id put my money on anything less than -14 for the aussies….. I got £20 on them for the cup at 12/1 which i think is a great bet….
I don’t know if there’s a parallel in US sport but the England vs South Africa rugby match does have one interesting element (other than how many points England will lose by).
One of the key players for England, Mike Catt, is South African.
During the apartheid years it wasn’t unusual for the more talented Rugby and Cricket players to suddenly find a distant relative that allowed them to play for England.
In fact in Rugby in general it’s not usual for people to be naturalised and play for a country other than there one of birth. Most of the european teams have had a rouge southern hemisphere element. With one or two Aussie and Kiwi’s popping up in the starting line ups every now and again.
But for Mike Catt it’s a little bit more extreme. I saw him in a pub in London during the last time the South African cricket team was touring England. Where he has only to happy to let everybody know that he was born in South Africa and he hoped that England got a stuffing. Switch the conversation to Rugby though and it’s which ever team he play at the moment.
And a final word about Mike Catt – he will forever be etched in my memory as the guy who Jonah Lomu ran right over the top of in announcing himself as a atar of world rugby during the 1995 Rugby World Cup
Worth a watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xoHL0nYlPbI
Pmac, from what I remember an Australia vs New Zealand semi is on the cards and that’s the best time to meet the All Blacks. They have been known to struggle at the semi final stage.
That said though, at the moment I can’t see anyone other that New Zeland. There’s certainly no way a northern hemisphere team is going to win it. There’s even a good chance of non getting as far as the semis.
Well we beat them in Sydney this year so it can be done….. the Kiwis are without a doubt the best team in the world but are definitely beatable. you also have to imagine the immense pressure on them every four years…. their country goes into mourning after every world cup as the favourites AGAIN come home without Bill (the cup).
I was in Sydney at the game in 2003 when we beat them in the semi and if everything goes to plan then we will do it again in a few weeks!!!!
Hahaha i love a bit of rugby talk….
