It’s week 1 of the college football season and the fellas leave no stone unturned. BMo and TD check the line for every game on the board, and with a little help from their friends at Don Best, try to find a winning angle.
Additional topics include Vick’s plea deal, the Mariners and D-Backs keep winning, Brian’s lessons learned from betting baseball, and the Godfather’s locks for week one. I do not look like a big headed buffoon who made a living acting like a retard!

Can i just say its gone 04:30 still drinking , had way more to drink than that night and am fine. Strange then what happened to me and rich . If you want to play it fair am up for a rematch. Fyregirl am so sorry i didn’t get a good chance to talk to you.
Fyregirl, sorry for referring to ‘your’ Tommy as an ugly brad pitt relative, i’ll know better in the future. Yes, i am a ugly cousin (actually a very ugly one, the one babies are scared of!). The name comes from my Australian Rugby League team, The Sydney Roosters.
Brian, i thought you’d take that as a compliment. To be a ’5 tool’ comedian you need to have the look !
Joe, Once the bubble burst against the titans, that was it. They were very average on saturday night against the panthers.
I am glad to know that you all had so much fun at the meet up that people are still looking for a rematch….
hey whit good to hear from you. i think everyone did themselves proud and no matter what happened, the amount of alcohol consumed by all was quite impressive.
i am certainly up for meeting with you guys again for a few drinks. let me know if you guys plan anything.
okay, so it is 8 am here in vegas and this is only the 2nd time i have gotten up this early since moving here. why you ask? (or don’t and i am going to tell you anyway)
there is a 2 day football handicapping seminar sponsored by VegasInsider.com at Red Rock today that should be very interesting. Topics for today include:
Meet the Oddsmakers
Shopping for the Right Line & Money Management
Identifying Handicapping Football Systems
Betting Pro & College Football Totals
College Football Forecast
I let you all know if i find out anything really interesting.
Looking forward to hearing about the seminar. I told the Godfather about it yesterday and his exact words were, “Sorry, I’m not available to speak”. I love that guy.
Mofobes: Life is all about learning isn’t it?
I’ll post my plays for my two homeland college teams this season.
Week #1 Iowa and Iowa State will both cover.
Record: 0.0.0
Yo BMO. Humiliation Bet Time baby.
You wanna put your proverbial money where your mouth is? I’ll take my Seattle Mariners vs your New York Yank-Mes in a playoff bet. The bet is basically that one of our teams makes the playoffs and the other does not, one guy wins. In the off chances that the Red Sox or the Angels totally shits the bed and both the M’s and Yanks make it…it’s a push.
I haven’t completely thought of a punishment, but I have a couple of ideas and I’m open to suggestions from you or the audience.
One option would be having to purchase a ticket and physically suffer thru the entire performace of Carrot-top’s show. I think I’m heading back to Vegas in November, but I don’t plan on losing.
Another option I call this too much of a good thing. You mentioned KFC today. I love KFC. I say that the loser has to purchase a KFC famous bowl and eat one for EVERY game that the other team stays in the playoffs. Not too bad if they get swept 3-0, but a couple of 5 game series and the grinding thru another famous bowl could be pretty painful.
You up for it you PUSSY? Just kidding man. I’m open to other humilations if anybody has a thought.
Hey guys.
Lots of good college info today. Maybe you could talk a little sometime on the concept of “middling”. What it is and when you could attempt to pull it off. I thought about it today when you mentioned that the LSU line had moved quite a bit today.
so good to hear from the 406, if only Fennville would resurface
Hey I got another fantasy league set up that everybody should get involved with and enjoy. It’s from The Onion and the twist is that you try and pick from a bunch of superstars which guys will perform the WORST. You basically try and pick a bunch of chumps. I think you can pick once and basically let your team ride for the season as well. Free. Supereasy. Funny twist. Get in there.

patch,
My feeling is that middling is strictly a mathematical play. Points and half points have a certain value (there are databases available that assign an approximate value to each number). If the middle numbers add up to more than a 10% edge, assuming -110 juice for both sides of your middle, the play has a positive expectation.
An example of a game I played this year with the intention of middling, is a bet on UCLA +16 vs. USC. I played it for a much larger number than I normally would place on a game, with the expectation that I can buy some or all of it back at a later date. Hopefullly, UCLA will have a great year and USC will stumble a bit, and I will have a huge middle opportunity. The last I checked, the game had dropped to 14 so even that number would be a pretty good middle.
I also play some middles for entertainment value, gives the possiblity of a big win for a small risk.
I’m always down for a good humiliation bet, but a Carrottop show is both cruel and unusual. I wonder which is worse, the physical damage I would do to myself eating the KFC, or the mental/emotional damage of Carrottop. Either way, I’m in.

Hey Patch – welcome to the board! I signed up for your fantasy league. You might want to change your name – there’s another really popular guy around here who has all of his posts read on air by Tommy and his name is Patch somethingorother as well.
Brad – I’m in your league as well – and heading off to figure out how to join jimmymacs.
Ok – anyone know how to actually sign up for Jimmymacs Pickem league???
A link to the jimmymac pickem league is on post #4 of the “Wild Cunt Race” episode.
I am just returning to the boards after a week or so under water for various reasons. The meet up stories were great. Mark me down as jealous to have missed it all. Hopefully I will be in a position to be there next time the stars align. Thanks to Train and JimmyMac for the Pictures.
For my picks this week I am opting for the ‘Tommy Dutch Belly Buster Parlay’ taking his theory ‘alumni pleasing’ dictates the margin in lopsided tilts.
USC -44.5 over Idaho
OK -40.5 over North Texas
PENN ST -38.5 over Visable Changes University (or whoever)
Texas -38 over Ark State
I’d bet the parlay in Vegas, but will go individual games here for ease of tracking.
College Record 0-0-0 (probable season high point)
JimmyMac, Steve in WP,
What is up with our Cyclones? Only 3.5 over Kent State? (no comments out of you on this one post please Hawkeye Brad).
where you @ fobes?
Brad, I signed up for the Fantasy League. Very easy. Thanks for coordinating.

At first glance the picture looks like Vegas but its Macau. Will be interestig to see if they can replicate “Vegas” in Macau and be successful.
On a side note, 11wks 6 days to go before YoTime Joe and I arrive for TAICON No. 2!
Fyregirl, sorry for referring to ‘your’ Tommy as an ugly brad pitt relative, i’ll know better in the future. Yes, i am a ugly cousin (actually the very ugly one, the one babies are scared of!). The name comes from my Australian Rugby League team, The Sydney Roosters.

Joe, Once the bubble burst against the titans, that was it. They were very average on saturday night against the panthers.
about fucking time!! i tried to put that post up 24hrs ago, anybody else have troubles posting ??
Roosterman – shouldn’t speak about yourself like that. titans game was a big disappointment. having no troubles posting at the moment but i may soon encounter some. work is taking our access away from connceting to websites. all online gambling sites are now blocked. if they block this site i may have to get a laptop for home. i think i will charge this back to TAI??
fyregirl, i was the Football handicapping seminar all day, then played at the $75 PLO Tournament at Caesars (WOW, i finally cashed in a tourney, I forgot how to win – ended up finishing 3 in it.)
the seminar was awesome, i learned a lot for a beginner & there were a lot of pros there too. it felt like college again as i took nine pages of notes. they are broadcasting it live and have the archived audio files online if anyone is interested.

combine this with TD, B-Mo, and Don Best & i think you could make some money.
tomorrow’s schedule is:
Betting Football Futures/Win Totals
Meet the Media
Statistical Analysis w/ Professor Ed Meyer
NFL Breakdown
son of a bitch—-Tigers 16 Yankee’s 0!
YoTime – if work bans us from betting sites can you tell the powers that be I won’t be back to work on Friday…SHIT!
Roosterman – I have not had trouble posting recently. However I had in the past and I think anytime there is an accidental change to the name (example an extra space at the end) it may go through moderation as a new poster. Then again, I’m not sure what the hell I am talking about…
YoTimeJoe
Regarding your access – im working in a UK Gov dept and our access is limited as well… pretty much all gambling sites are out…. but i still get access to this one – so you just never know.
On another note – i’m back at work today after hammering through a 3 day weekend including a rooftop bbq in Brixton whic included some dodgy dealings with a wannabe gangsta dealer guy outside the tube station we were drunkenly stumbling into late in the evening (Brixton is a notoriously ‘interesting and mixed race’ London area for those that were wondering) and the Notting Hill carnival. Never eaten so much goddamn Jerk Chicken or drank so much Red Stripe since 2000 when I last attended the carnival. Guess at least i wasnt one of the unlucky stabbing victims….
Guys Please let me know if your post don’t show up by emailing me at podcast@notiowa.com The chances are it is the system making the mistake and not you. I’m trying to train the system as it goes and thats why roosterman has the same post 4 times.
Unreal podcast- I loved this sports episode, very good stuff!
RE-TAICON1-the meet up-(Ace I think 9/10)! It sounded hilarious (what really happened in the Cabaña?) & I can only wish I were there.
But just quietly….It sounded a great night was had & I’m one jealous TAI fan.
I’m glad Whit is OK. (Spiked drink! Wonder what with? Richie any ideas?)
I know that Dutch is an A1 drinker, he kept up with YoTimeJoe & MoFoboes. But BMo! Buddy well done! A 10 drink session is something I think you should take advantage of more often, cos’ when BMo Jr arrives there is no chance (unless you can teach him/her to play poker very early on).
Trainfan/Jimmymac – great pics!
pmac, Ace, English Bob,Other UKers,
Has anyone been to the new Empire Casino Liecester Square? I will probably be in London this fall and hope to get in some poker there if it works out.
Slash – haven’t been there yet. I dont know how keen I am to go though. From what I have read I dont think its meant to be the greatest poker set up in the world by a long shot. In fact I believe they are runbing the WSOP Europe main event days at different locations due to the small poker setup. I also pretty much do what I can to avoid Leicester Sq as its tourist heaven and inflated prices on everything….
There are a few other places around London to play that I have checked out (The Vic, the Gutshot)- Id be happy to join you for a night out playing if you want or a night out drinking or whatever really – im always up for something and there is always something to do in London!!!
Let me know when your gonna be in town.
Thanks pmac. I may take you up on that if my plans firm up. I am pretty familar with London in general having travelled there many times, but I have never played poker there.
hawkeye,
The link that you posted for fantasy doesn’t work, can you repost it, i would like to join.
yzerman
Tough break for the Aussies. As I mentioned on the show, I single handedly ruined internet access for the entire company at my last job. If it turns out too much TAI posting contributed to the ban you have to let us know. It would look great on the resume.
Thanks for the drinking kudos Dipper. Definitely not something I can handle often anymore (what with the one kidney and all), but it’s fun every now and then. Might be fully recovered in November when the boys from the OZ visit again.
Slashdog:
I’ll actually be in Ames for the Cyclone opener. I think that the low over of 3.5 is due to the fact that Vegas handicappers don’t spend too much time following them. They’ve got a new coach (Chizek) from Texas, so I am anticipating some Texas style football playing… not that lame ass play calling from their former Big Ten washout coach (McCarney).
Thanks Steve WP. I look forward to your report of opening weekend.
Yzerman,
The link worked for me, but try just going to this:

Ours is a free, custom league.
League ID: 521289
Password: Vegas
Let me know if you still can’t find it.
Everyone: We still 6 signed up, with 6 openings left. If you want in, sign up soon so we can have the draft!
Hooray I actually have nothing to talk about.
Really, I have not even heard the show yet although I have listened to shows 59 through 62 so catching up.
Slashdog I live quite a way from London and although I used to live there I have never been in a London Casino I dont think I would feel comfortable. I like the casual approach in Vegas.
I probably could not even afford to gamble in London and as a city i just get pissed off at the cost as I just think what I could get in Vegas for the same money ( even the shitty hotels in London are gonna cost $200 a night!).
London is wayyyyyyy overrated New York owns London. New York is a 9 to Londons 6
London has its moments – but it is overpriced (unless you know where to go for cheap stuff like booze). I’m basically using it as the best place for me to earn pounds and a base to travel from
Fennville is back!
Great to hear the show. I have been busting my ass putting http://chargerblue.com together. If you degenerates need a D2 team to root for, I have a great up and comer. Check out the site.
Fennville!! I thought you were dead.
Nice Looking site Fenn – how do you like working with iWeb?
Hawkeye are you planning a live or auto draft?
Fennville:
Hillside will own Gannon on the first!
Hi everyone. Thought I’d jump on the boards now that I’m caught up on listening to the shows. BMo, I’m glad you made the change from MSR. The time resrictions they put on you really hindered the full enjoyment of meaningless rants that made no sense.
Thanks everyone and remeber, seatbelts save lives, condoms prevent them. (A lesson that Brian has failed to learn)
Ace – I know what you mean about NY & London. every time i hit london i always wonder why i bothered in the 1st place. it has to be the most expensive place to visit in the world.
Brian – i can’t say that all the posting caused them to investigate which sites we were logging on to but the ban did happen the day after all the post Sat PM Vegas time.
pmac – i can only hope the powers that be don’t check the site out cause i think they will put it on the band list if they listen to either the wed or fri shows.
