Chaffed Nipples

It was a slow news week in Vegas, but luckily we hit the high points like neglected children, hobo boxing, and naked beer runs.

It’s also time to unviel the #10 property on the list.  Best pool scene in Vegas, as long as you don’t mind a little sand in your crack, but the waitresses leave much to be desired.  Also, a gourmet dinner with a view of the penny slots and a dive bar that offers kareoke and food poisoning.  And never forget, mothers love BMo.

Ace, do you try to be the first one to comment on the new shows on purpose? Or does it just happen that way most of the times?

Steve I am stuck in front of the computer at home all day long trying to set up my new business – today I am trying to write a management training course – So after O&A finish I switch to listening to my back log of Vegas podcasts.
I keep an eye on the site for notice of the new episode or action on the noticeboard and act accordingly.
I must admit though it’s that new page thing – Its all shiny and new and I get to spoil it first even when I have nothing to say.

By the way I am just passing through the episodes with your tips on getting maximum comps – Fuck man I am so jealous of you. You really know how to work that stuff, I can only dream.
My last trip to Vegas was my fourth and although I really tried for the first time to build some comps, I was still fairly pathetic. I stayed at the Tropicana and got free show tickets to the crappy Trop shows, about 17 dollars in comp dollars and about 22 dollars cash! Feeble but a start I guess.
Before my next visit I will re-listen to those shows again.

Great comment about your Mom listening to Air Supply during road trips. My Mom did the same thing. The worst was when she went through her Chris Deberg phase and played ‘Lady In Red’ the entire way from Michigan to Florida one year. I can still recite the entire song……cheek to cheek!

Ace, I can understand wanting to be the first poster. I was a moderator over at the IGN Boards where the only content of the first post on the popular forums was, “1st post!”. Just figured I’d ask!

Also on the comps issue: It’s not quite as easy as Brian made it out to be. It definitely takes some work, time, and of course a bank roll. If you guys have any specific questions feel free to email me (notiowa @ penut.net) or post here and I’ll answer as best I can.

Mungus you’re pretty much screwed if you’re trying to earn good comps on your first time using their players card. My advice is to go up to their sign-up desk and ask for a new account to be opened. Then while they’re busily typing away your information, casually ask them, “For being a new member, are there any gifts or comps you’re giving away?” At the least you’ll probably get a gift bag but at the most I’ve been given a choice of a free hotel stay during the week and $25 in slot dollars. Follow the rest of my tips in the casino comp segments and you should be good for the next trip you make to their casino.

Good show guys. Brian, I do have to make a correction though. Back in the All In days, I never said I was suprised that your stand up was funny. I said I was suprised that in your 30 minute set, you talked more about poker than you had in hosting more than 100 half hour poker podcasts.

So instead of constantly kicking my taste come out and tell us your favourites. You have already told us that you rate Bill Cosby really highly. So what’s your feelings on the following compared with Cosby – If you like you could rate them out of 10 :-0

I love that you’re into comedy and don’t mean to demean that, but you’re such a ball breaker on the message boards that I like giving it back to you. Maybe it’s a cultural thing or just your personal sense of humor, but you throw out names that aren’t exactly hot commodoties here in the states. I’ve done my top 10 list several times on BTB so I won’t get into it here, but as for the 3 comics you posted, 10+, 6, 10 on the Ace scale.

BMo It’s funny you think I’m a ball breaker – because that’s how I see you.
I think somewhere along the way we both kind of post or say stuff just to watch it ripple the surface, I know for sure none of it is really that important to me it’s just for effect.
Love the show and think You and Dutch make a great double act.

BTW – You totally marked them out of 10

Ok, it’s the first week and I really put some time into this. But fear not, in a few weeks I’ll get frustrated and just play every 3 touchdown dog on the money line.

    Plays for Saturday:

    Wisconsin -14 over Washington St.
    Auburn -13.5 over Kansas St.

That’s all for now, also considering plays on West Virgina and Texas Tech, but haven’t pulled the trigger yet.

    mofobes,

How did you like the handicapping seminar this week? I see that the archives are recorded on the vegas insider website but I haven’t had a chance to listen to them yet.

I see that Fezzik, a handicapper that I have followed the last couple years, was on several of the panels. He seems like a very sharp guy, especially in terms of line shopping and predicting line moves.

    Tommy and Bmo,

Enjoying your Monday sports shows. I liked the Godfathers picks this week and played all three in round robin parlay.

Unfortunately my betting days seem to be numbered. I only have one active offshore book left, and I tried to make a Western Union deposit this week, (a method I have used since the demise of Neteller), but my deposit was refused. Looks like the U.S. government has put some teeth into this anti-gambling legislation. If they are that serious about stopping a small time gambler like me, it is probably time to shut it down. I still have a few dollars left in the account, but I have been reduced to $20 units. Will have to get my fix in a Vegas football trip this fall.

On the subject of the Mandalay Bay, it is definitely in my top five (the Hotel has great rooms), and you’ve got to love the wave pool. The 3 foot waves are right in my bodysurfing wheelhouse, just like the woosie waves at my local beach. Perfect after a few 30 oz. beers.

Two more points, the 40 ounce, $50 martini at the Red Square is the best bargain in the place. And the China Grill is as good a restaurant as you will find anywhere.

    Rack me, I’m out.

Hey Yotime Joe/Big Phil – sounds like we should def include the Rum Jungle on our list of “must do things” in Vegas after listening to today’s episode!

SlahdogX – post #21 last episode – well done! Great read & I agree with most of it.

The reason I like the show = after a few beers when I listen, its as though I’m in a dive bar & I’m listening to a couple of degenerates talking bullshit about stuff I really like. It fucking cracks me up! Great humour.

JR – my missus has given me a permanent leave pass so no probs there, but my Visa Card says “no chance”. Maybe next year in April again.

    September 1, 2007 | 9:23 am

Ah, now I understand your initial post Ace!! LOL!! We are a pretty shite bunch of listeners!! LOL!!

On the subject of comps. The $20 trick/tip worked like a charm for me in June at The Mirage. We were there for nine days so I used a $50 bill and we got a great upgrade to a strip and pool view room with Jacuzzi on a ‘private’ (25th) floor which had a value of about $400 more than we paid. At the end of the trip I visited the players club desk expecting to get A Mirage t-shirt (or worse still a ‘Love’ t-shirt.. don’t get me started on Cirque shows!!) and they were able to comp us $250 room service bill which was amazing, especially given that we only earned 7,500 players club points. She initially offered two free nights but we had paid upfront so couldn’t use them.

Ace, re: your crappy Trop comps – I had a chat with the players club rep on the last day and she advised us to always charge everything to the room rather than using cash so that they have more to comp you at the end of the stay. The biggest problem is living in the UK as the casinos don’t seem to mail out offers as freely as they do to the U.S. and Canada and there has been nothing going on in my players club account which is disappointing so I emailed MGM to ask about comps and here is the reply…

    Dear Mr Mungus.

We are happy to hear that you’re considering staying at our resort. I reviewed your Players Club account and unfortunately you do not have enough points for a discounted room based on your play. For slot play, we require 6,000 pts/per day for room complimentary and 17,000 pts/per day for room, food, and beverage complementaries. For table game play, we require $150-$250 average bet – 4 hrs day of play for room complimentary and $350-$400 average bet – 4 hrs day of play for room, food, and beverage complementaries.

This is totally contrary from my experience at the players club desk so I can only assume that upfront comps are a lot more difficult to get than retrospective comps. Its also interesting to consider the fact that to earn a free room with food and drink, one has to piss away on average $350-$400 PER HAND for a period of FOUR HOURS!! So given that one might expect 50 hands per hour that’s a grand total of between $70,000 and $80,000 played!!! OK, I realise that its not a case of having to loose the money to get the comps but at $350/$400 per hand its not going to take a very long loosing streak to empty my modest bank roll.

Having been to Vegas five times previously; I now adopt a different approach to playing than I did when I vas a Vegas Virgin. I tend to enjoy just being in Vegas far more, drinking in the sights, sounds, smells (ahh, the heady mix of sewerage, chlorine and unwashed degenerate gamblers) and atmosphere of the place and when I gamble I never sit down at the table with the intention of playing ‘$200’ until I loose, otherwise the only thing that is going to happen is that I will loose. Instead, I now ‘try my luck’ and see how The Fates treat my initial few bets. If these initial bets do badly then its time to leave the table and enjoy the rest of the town with Mrs Mungus. If the first few hands bare fruit then that’s great and I carry on, but I am always looking for ‘streaks’ and when I feel that my luck is taking a turn for the worst, I quit for the day. This has worked quite well over the last couple of trips and allowed me to return with a pretty good bank roll which I use to fund the next trip. I recall my third trip when we stayed at NYNY (I trust that crap hole is not going to feature in the top ten guys! The only good thing about it is the Irish bar that serves Guinness) and I just played every night until I was skint and damn was that a bad holiday!

Of course the GBP/USD exchange rate is helping a lot as are some of the sites that post offers such as vegashotelspecial.com and fatwallet.com. Using these sites and also though some kind folk on other boards, we have been able to save a significant amount of money off the next trip and stay at better properties than we might otherwise have been able to afford by booking with the likes of Expedia (who are very good, but you pay book price).

Any how, I for one, would love to hear more on the boards and on the podcast regarding ways to ‘work Vegas’ and get just a little bit more for free… With out spending $80,000!!!

Great show tonight guys – appreciate you making it this far without selling out to some big time sports show!!

Now I have to go fix the sink and cut the grass… Living the dream baby, living the dream!! :)

Yo, Ace! Site has been OK during the times that I have visited, but I have not been online too much due to my domestic tasks.

Spent much of my time listening to The Strip podcast and another interview with someone in whom I have absolutely no interest (as bloody usual), but still, its pretty entertaining, although I wish I had kept TAI to listen too during my toil.

Indeed, TAI could be my official ‘doing crap that I really fucking hate podcast’ as I often listen to it whilst doing things that I would rather not be doing.

Still, its almost 7pm and I am 5 cans of tasteless Budweiser in, so its not all bad! (Drinking Bud is part of my Vegas acclimatisation program).

I have no idea what the hell I am yaking on about so I’ll shut up….

    Happy Days!
